Living in the 5th most dog friendly state, Vermonters, like you, want to take their dogs along with them to enjoy all the environments and sights our lovely state has to offer.  This may include hiking in the Green Mountains, strolling down Church St. in Burlington, or stopping by a local brewery. We are dedicated to improving your relationship with your dog and further integrating them into your Vermont lifestyle.

One of the first steps in teaching your dog new skills is teaching you! Learning the skills to clearly communicate between dog and human takes time and education. Black Jack Dog Training wants to improve your dog’s skill set, but also boost your confidence while at the other end of the leash. We value human education; all of our training programs incorporate hands on learning and other teaching aids to ensure we meet your training goals.

There are many methods to dog training in our society today. We lead you with methods backed by science to create long lasting results. Black Jack Dog Training uses the Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) approach to dog training which focuses on the use of Positive Reinforcement to train new skills and modify existing behaviors.

Here's the thing...

If you don't work towards change now...then when will you?

The unfortunate answer is that probably never. Fortunately you don't have to take a scary leap into the unknown alone. I'm here to help you every step of the way!

We are excited to meet you! Our Behavior Consultation allows for an in person meeting to better understand the troublesome behaviors you are experiencing with your dog.

The consultation is held in the comfort of your own home. In our 1 to 2 hour meeting, we will dive into your training goals. We will also create a holistic wellness plan to meet the needs of you and your dog to start implementing strategies right away! Consultations are not required but may be necessary depending on you and your dogs needs.

  • Do I have to pick a specific program?
We get it, your life is unique! This also applies to you and your dogs relationship or training goals. Our training programs are always customized to fit your needs. Fill out a Contact Form to set up a discovery call with Emma. This call gives you time to chat about what is going on and to figure out which program is the right fit for you!
  • How long will it take to train my dog?
Every persons learning style is different, we are human! This applies to dogs as well. In general, it takes 1 to 3 months for a new behavior, skills or routines to stick for any living thing. The behaviors we teach our dogs require patience and consistency to remain in our dogs repertoire of skills long term. Our programs generally take 8 weeks to 6 months to complete, the efficacy of training is dependent on how often you're practicing the skills with your dog and keeping up with your routine!
  • Where will training sessions take place?
We do not currently have a facility and are considered a mobile training service. In person lessons will occur in the comfort of your home or at an offsite real-world location chosen before the lesson. Offsite locations or field trips away from your home are important to help your dog practice their new skills and behaviors around distractions and environments that are extra exciting or unique.
  • We use LIMA as a preferred method to training Black Jack Dog Training students. What is LIMA?
Black Jack Dog Training uses the Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) approach to dog training which focuses on the use of Positive Reinforcement. Learn more here.

We have been delighted to have Emma work with our dog, Molly, and I would highly recommend her to anyone… In addition to greatly improved recall skills, she has also become more relaxed on her walks and hikes.  Emma's work with her on meeting people and other dogs has made her more relaxed and comfortable and has made walks and hikes a more enjoyable experience for all of us…We are happy to trust Emma with Molly's training and excited to continue working with her.
